How we serve Birmingham

The honest serving model

Birmingham is the UK's second-largest city and one of the busiest chef-employing markets outside London. It holds five Michelin-starred restaurants, the NEC and ICC event complex, Edgbaston Stadium, a Jewellery Quarter restaurant cluster, and large care and education catchments across the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Chefs Bay serves Birmingham from our Leicester office, roughly 45 minutes by road on the M6 or M69. The chef bench we draw from lives across Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, West Bromwich, and Wolverhampton, and travels direct to your venue. The Leicester team takes your call, manages compliance paperwork, and confirms the placement. We will open a physical Birmingham office when booking volumes justify it, not before.

All Chefs Bay workers are on full PAYE. Every chef sent into a care home or school kitchen holds Enhanced DBS with the relevant Barred List check before the first shift. The 2-hour response commitment we hold in central London, Manchester, and Liverpool does not apply in Birmingham, because we do not have a local base here. The honest citywide response window is 24 hours.

FAQ

Chef staffing in Birmingham: common questions

Do you have a Birmingham office?

No. We do not have a physical office in Birmingham. We serve Birmingham from our Leicester office, roughly 45 minutes by car, and our chef bench lives across the West Midlands (Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton) and travels direct to your venue. The Midlands booking line is 0116 365 1250. We would rather tell you this up front than pretend to a local presence we do not have.

How quickly can you supply chefs in Birmingham?

We do not commit to a 2-hour response in Birmingham because we do not have a local office here. The honest citywide window is 24 hours from the point of call. Same-day turnaround (4 to 8 hours) is realistic for central Birmingham postcodes (B1-B5) when we have a chef free on the West Midlands bench. Outside central Birmingham, 8 to 24 hours is the realistic window. Scope detail is on the 2-hour response guarantee page.

Which areas of Birmingham and the West Midlands do you cover?

Our West Midlands bench covers Birmingham city centre, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, West Bromwich, and Wolverhampton as a minimum. We also handle bookings out towards Dudley, Walsall, Cannock, Redditch, and the Warwickshire-border wedding venues. If you are unsure whether your postcode is inside the travel window for our bench, ring the Midlands line and we will tell you honestly before you spend time on a brief.

Are your Birmingham chefs DBS-checked and PAYE compliant?

Every chef we send into a care home or school kitchen holds Enhanced DBS with the relevant Barred List check before the first shift. Chefs for hospitality, contract catering, and events sites hold Right to Work and Level 2 Food Safety as a baseline, with DBS on request. All Chefs Bay workers are employed on a full PAYE basis. We do not use umbrella companies or false self-employment, which matters in regulated settings (care, schools) and increasingly for corporate clients who run IR35 checks on their supplier base.

Why do you serve Birmingham from Leicester rather than opening a Birmingham office?

Our existing Leicester base already covers the Birmingham catchment well: the bench lives in the West Midlands, travel times from Leicester to central Birmingham sit at around 45 minutes on the M6 or M69, and opening a physical office in Birmingham would add overhead without improving the service. We plan to open a local Birmingham presence once booking volumes justify it. Until then, we would rather be honest about the serving model than fake a local office to please a search engine.
