How we serve North Wales

Liverpool-served, A55 corridor coverage

North Wales runs three overlapping hospitality markets. The coastal cluster (Llandudno, Conwy, Colwyn Bay, Rhyl, Prestatyn, plus Anglesey) holds family seaside resorts, holiday parks (Pontins Prestatyn, Haven Greenacres, Parkdean Hafan y Mor), and country house hotels (Bodysgallen Hall, Tre-Ysgawen Hall on Anglesey). Snowdonia / Eryri runs a walking and adventure-tourism season May to October, with mountain hotels, hostels, and outdoor activity centres at Capel Curig, Llanberis, Beddgelert, and Betws-y-Coed. North-east Wales (Wrexham, Flintshire) is closer to Chester market dynamics, with mid-market hotel and contract catering volume year-round.

Chefs Bay does not have a physical office in North Wales. We serve the region from our Liverpool base, with drive time to Llandudno at roughly 1.5 hours via the A55. The Liverpool chef bench drives direct to most North Welsh coastal venues; for Snowdonia interior placements (Capel Curig, Llanberis, Beddgelert), drive time stretches to 2 to 2.5 hours and live-in cover is often the better operational fit. For wedding-season head chef cover at country house venues, the live-in model fits well: chefs travel for the May-to-September window with accommodation provided by the venue.

Every chef we send into a North Welsh care home, school, or nursery setting holds Enhanced DBS with the relevant Barred List check before the first shift. Chefs for hospitality, country house, and event sites hold Right to Work, Level 2 Food Safety, and Allergen Awareness as a baseline. All Chefs Bay workers are on full PAYE. Welsh-language ability is occasionally requested for venues in the Welsh-speaking heartland (Eryri interior, Anglesey), and we tag chefs in our database who hold conversational Welsh; ring the booking line if Welsh-speaking is essential rather than nice-to-have.

North Wales serving model

Driving cover plus live-in for the long bookings

The hybrid model: short bookings via daily Liverpool drive, longer country house and Snowdonia placements via the live-in bench.

Driving cover (short bookings)

One-to-three week placements at Llandudno, Conwy, Colwyn Bay, Rhyl, Prestatyn, and the Wrexham / Flintshire belt. Liverpool chef bench drives direct via A55, typically arriving inside 2 hours of dispatch. Mid-market hotel cover, contract catering placements, and emergency cover all sit in this window.

Live-in cover (long bookings)

Four-week+ placements at Snowdonia country house hotels, Anglesey beach hotels, and the larger holiday park groups. Chef travels with accommodation arranged at the venue (live-in staff cottage or staff room), travel-inclusive day rates agreed at booking. Wedding-season head chef cover (May-Sept) and Christmas country house programmes (mid-Dec to early Jan) fit this model.

For Welsh-language requirements or Eryri interior bookings, ring the booking line — both have caveats worth talking through.

FAQ

North Wales chef hire: common questions

Do you have an office in North Wales?

No. We do not have a physical office in North Wales. We serve the region from our Liverpool office, roughly 1.5 hours by road to Llandudno or Conwy via the A55. The Liverpool chef bench drives direct to North Welsh venues, and we offer live-in cover for placements of four weeks or longer at Snowdonia country house hotels and Anglesey coastal venues. We will be straight about the model rather than fake a North Wales address.

How quickly can you supply chefs in North Wales?

For planned bookings of two weeks or more, we confirm a named chef inside 48 hours of brief receipt. For shorter or emergency cover at Llandudno, Conwy, or Rhyl venues, the realistic window is 24 to 48 hours from Liverpool. The 2-hour response commitment we hold in central Liverpool does not extend across the A55, but a chef can be on site at most North Welsh coastal venues within 4 hours when one is free on the bench. For Snowdonia interior placements (Capel Curig, Llanberis, Beddgelert), the realistic window stretches because of drive time inside the National Park.

How does live-in chef cover work for North Wales hotels and holiday parks?

For placements of four weeks or longer at Snowdonia country house hotels, Anglesey beach hotels, or Pontins / Haven / Parkdean holiday parks, the live-in model fits better than daily-commute cover. Chefs travel from our Liverpool bench (or further if your venue offers premium accommodation) with on-site lodging provided by the venue, stay for the duration of the booking, and are paid travel-inclusive day rates. This is the standard model for the May-to-October summer peak across the wider North Wales coast.

Which areas of North Wales do you cover?

Llandudno, Conwy, Colwyn Bay, Bangor, Caernarfon, Anglesey (including Holyhead, Beaumaris, and Menai Bridge), Snowdonia / Eryri (Capel Curig, Llanberis, Beddgelert, Betws-y-Coed), Rhyl, Prestatyn, and the Wrexham / Flintshire belt for north-east Wales. Mid-Wales venues (Aberystwyth, Machynlleth) are workable for live-in placements but usually fit our South Wales coverage better; ring the booking line to confirm.

Are your North Wales chefs DBS-checked and PAYE compliant?

Every chef we send into a North Welsh care home, school, or nursery setting holds Enhanced DBS with the relevant Barred List check before the first shift. Chefs for hospitality, country house, and event sites hold Right to Work, Level 2 Food Safety, and Allergen Awareness as a baseline. All Chefs Bay workers are employed on full PAYE. Welsh-language ability is occasionally requested for venues in the Welsh-speaking heartland (Eryri interior, Anglesey); we tag chefs in our database who hold conversational Welsh.

Do you cover the Snowdonia / Eryri walking-season peak?

Yes. The Snowdonia walking and adventure-tourism season peaks May to October across mountain hotels, hostels, and outdoor activity centres. Operators booking 8-12 weeks ahead get the deepest bench. Snowdon railway and Pen-y-Pass venues run heaviest in school holiday windows; book early for August.

Why should we use Chefs Bay rather than a North-Wales-specific agency?

There are local North Welsh agencies with deeper Welsh-speaking community ties; we will be honest that they have a network advantage in some Eryri interior placements. The trade-off is that those agencies draw from a relatively thin North Welsh chef pool. Our Liverpool-served model gives operators access to a larger active chef bench at the price of a 1.5 hour drive. For coastal venues at Llandudno, Conwy, Anglesey, and Rhyl, Liverpool drive time is no slower than commuting from Wrexham or Bangor, and the bench depth typically wins. For Eryri interior, both models have trade-offs.
