How we serve Wales

North Welsh proximity, national bench reach

North Wales sits inside our Liverpool driving radius (~1.5 hours via the A55), which makes daily-commute coverage viable for one-to-three week placements at Llandudno, Conwy, Anglesey, and the wider North Welsh coast. The North Wales spoke page covers the local detail. For longer wedding-season head chef cover at Snowdonia country house venues or Anglesey beach hotels, the live-in model fits better.

South Wales, Mid Wales, and West Wales sit outside our Liverpool day-trip radius. Cardiff is roughly 4 hours from Liverpool by road; Pembrokeshire is 5+ hours. We cover these regions through the national live-in chef bench for placements of four weeks or longer, with chefs travelling from London, Liverpool, or Manchester with accommodation provided by the venue. We will be honest that this is not the same as having a Welsh team on the ground; for shorter placements the live-in model often does not fit, and we will say so on the call rather than commit to something we cannot deliver.

Wales uses DBS (not PVG, which is Scotland's equivalent) for protected adult and child work. Every chef we send into a Welsh care home, school, or nursery setting holds Enhanced DBS with the relevant Barred List check before the first shift. Welsh-language ability is occasionally requested for venues in Welsh-speaking heartlands (Eryri interior, Anglesey, parts of Mid and West Wales); we tag chefs who hold conversational Welsh and treat language as a hard constraint rather than a preference. All Chefs Bay workers are employed on full PAYE.

FAQ

Wales chef hire: common questions

Does Chefs Bay cover Wales?

We cover North Wales directly through our Liverpool-served model with a dedicated North Wales spoke page. South Wales (Cardiff, Swansea, the Gower, Pembrokeshire, Brecon Beacons) is reachable through our national live-in chef bench for placements of four weeks or longer; ring the booking line to confirm whether your South Welsh venue and timeframe fit the model. Mid-Wales (Aberystwyth, Machynlleth, Powys) is similar — workable for live-in but case-by-case.

Why does North Wales have its own page but not South Wales?

Booking volume from North Wales is higher and the geography is closer to Liverpool (~1.5 hours via A55), which makes daily-commute coverage viable for short bookings. South and Mid-Wales bookings have historically run lower volume from Chefs Bay; we cover them through the national live-in bench rather than building a dedicated regional spoke until volume justifies it. Be honest, not fake.

Are your Welsh chefs DBS-checked and PAYE compliant?

Every chef we send into a Welsh care home, school, or nursery setting holds Enhanced DBS with the relevant Barred List check before the first shift. Wales uses DBS like England (rather than PVG like Scotland). Chefs for hospitality, country house, and event sites hold Right to Work, Level 2 Food Safety, and Allergen Awareness as a baseline. All Chefs Bay workers are employed on full PAYE.

Do you have Welsh-speaking chefs?

Some, yes. Welsh-language ability is occasionally requested for venues in Welsh-speaking areas (Eryri interior, Anglesey, parts of Mid and West Wales). We tag chefs in our database who hold conversational or fluent Welsh, and we will tell you on the booking call whether we can match the language requirement. For most hospitality settings, English is the working kitchen language, but for venues marketing to Welsh-speaking communities the requirement is real and we treat it as a hard constraint rather than a nice-to-have.

How does live-in chef cover work for Welsh placements?

For placements of four weeks or longer at Welsh country house hotels, Pembrokeshire coastal hotels, Brecon Beacons venues, or Welsh holiday parks, we deploy chefs from our national bench who travel with accommodation provided. The chef stays on site for the full booking, returns home between rotations, and is paid travel-inclusive day rates. This is the operational standard for Welsh hospitality outside the Liverpool-day-trip radius.

Why no Cardiff-specific page?

We will build a Cardiff page when sustained Cardiff booking volume justifies it. Currently South Welsh placements run through the live-in bench rather than a dedicated regional team. If you are a Cardiff-area operator with regular hospitality staffing needs, ring the booking line — early enquiries from Cardiff, Swansea, or Newport help us calibrate when a South Wales build-out makes sense.
